# How to run a KBC-style quiz at a dealer meet

Run a Kaun Banega Crorepati style quiz at a dealer or partner meet: question ladder, lifelines, hot seat, audience poll and live scoring on the venue screen.

**To run a KBC-style quiz at a dealer meet, write a ladder of rising questions, pick a hot-seat contestant from the audience, offer lifelines such as an audience poll, show each question on the venue screen and score the whole hall.** Make the product and market the subject, and keep the pace brisk.

## Why this format suits an Indian dealer audience

Almost every adult in India knows the shape of Kaun Banega Crorepati: a question, four options, a nervous contestant, a lifeline and a ladder of rising stakes. You never need to explain it. That saves the five minutes other games lose in rules and lets the emcee spend the time on theatre. For a channel audience used to targets, ladders and slabs, the format also echoes the way they think about incentives.

A KBC-style segment works best as a stage moment in the middle of a long day, when attention dips after lunch. It gives the hall a shared event while a small number of contestants play. The danger is that the other hundreds of people become spectators. The cure is to give the room a way to play, which is covered below.

## Choose what the questions are about

A dealer quiz can carry real business messages if the questions are designed for it. Mix three kinds:

| Question type | Example direction | Purpose |
| ----------------- | ------------------------------- | ----------------------------------- |
| Product knowledge | A feature of the new launch | Reinforce the launch message |
| Scheme and policy | The slab for the new quarter | Check that the scheme is understood |
| General and fun | Cricket, films, local geography | Keep the mood light |

Keep the business questions factual and avoid tricks that embarrass a contestant in front of peers. A dealer who feels mocked in public will not forgive the brand. The goal is learning with a smile.

## Build the ladder

A classic ladder has around ten to fifteen questions. For a stage segment of fifteen to twenty minutes, a ladder of seven to ten is usually enough. Start with two easy questions to settle nerves. Put the hardest question near the top. Decide whether a wrong answer ends the run or drops the contestant to a safe level. Safe levels add drama and soften the fall.

Decide the stakes. In a corporate setting, the prize is usually recognition or a gift, not cash, so the ladder can be points, tokens or reward levels. Make sure the prizes are bought before the day and that a clear person hands them over.

## Plan the lifelines

Lifelines are what make the format. Common ones:

- **Audience poll.** The hall votes on their phones or by QR code and the result shows on screen.
- **Phone a friend.** A colleague from the same zone is called to the stage.
- **Fifty-fifty.** Two wrong options are removed.
- **Expert.** A senior product person offers a hint.

The audience poll is the lifeline that engages the whole room. Plan it so that the poll question appears on the venue screen with a QR code, results fill in as people vote and the contestant sees the distribution.

## Pick contestants fairly

Choose contestants in a way the hall accepts as fair. Options include a fastest-finger round, where everyone answers a question on their phone and the quickest correct responders go to the stage, or a draw among those who attended a session. Spread contestants across zones. Brief the chosen ones before they go on stage so that they know the process and are not caught off guard.

## Run the segment

Rehearse once with the emcee. Prepare cue cards with the question, options, correct answer and any trap. Agree what the emcee says on a wrong answer and how to handle a long silence. Keep the music, lighting and screen in sync. Time each question and move on if the contestant stalls.

Give the room something to do between questions. A small scoring game running alongside, where every attendee answers each question on their phone for points, converts the audience from spectators into players. The leaderboard at the end can crown a hall champion as well as the hot-seat winner.

## Pitfalls to avoid

- **Questions that are too niche.** Test each with someone outside the product team.
- **Ambiguous options.** Two arguably right answers cause an argument and break the mood.
- **A slow stage change.** Practise how contestants arrive and leave.
- **Ignoring the hall.** If only the contestant plays, interest fades.
- **No debrief.** After the quiz, show the product point again to anchor learning.

## A sample run sheet for a twenty-minute segment

| Minute | What happens | Notes |
| -------- | ------------------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------- |
| 0 to 2 | Emcee introduces the segment and the prizes | Music and a title card on the screen |
| 2 to 4 | Fastest-finger round on phones to pick two contestants | One question, four options, quickest correct answers win |
| 4 to 8 | Contestant one climbs the first rungs | Easy questions, warm tone |
| 8 to 9 | Audience poll lifeline | Poll with QR on screen, results shown live |
| 9 to 14 | Contestant two takes the hot seat | A product question, a scheme question |
| 14 to 18 | Whole-hall round | Everyone answers on their phone; leaderboard updates |
| 18 to 20 | Prizes and product recap | The business message is repeated |

Rehearse the transitions between segments, since the dead air during a change of contestant is where hall attention drops.

## Keeping it fair and credible

Dealers watch for favouritism. State how contestants are chosen and stick to it. If a question is disputed, have a referee, such as a senior product manager, rule on it quickly and visibly, and move on. Keep an answer sheet with sources, so that a challenge about a scheme question can be settled by pointing to the circular, not to opinion. If you must pull a question, say so calmly and replace it, rather than pretending nothing happened.

Make sure the prize structure respects regional balance. A quiz that is dominated by the host city’s team can feel unfair to those who travelled. Mixed selection rules, such as one contestant from each zone, help.

## Using the quiz to learn something

The best KBC-style segments leave the hall knowing something new. Afterwards, look at which questions were answered wrongly by the audience. These are the topics the business has not yet communicated well. Feed them to the sales and training teams, and consider a short follow-up message to partners on the point that confused most people. A quiz can therefore double as a simple listening exercise, without any extra survey.

## How Sociana handles this

Sociana’s [custom branded games](https://sociana.in/features/custom-branded-games/) list a KBC-style quiz show among examples, skinned in the client’s colours and content on the shared activation engine that provides participant identity, timers, scoring, leaderboards and operator controls. Custom games are scoped per occasion, so the ladder, lifelines and look are agreed up front. For the audience, [live quizzes](https://sociana.in/features/live-quizzes/) let an Owner or Manager add questions, mark the correct option and switch each question on from the stage with a Visible toggle, and scores flow into the [unified leaderboard](https://sociana.in/features/unified-leaderboard/).

HCCB Partners Meet 2026 in Goa ran HCCB Beverages Trivia, Conference Bingo and Who Am I with live polls, and scoped content for partners and employees. The KBC-style game is part of the Sociana games library; it was not part of that meet. See the [HCCB Partners Meet case study](https://sociana.in/case-studies/hccb-partners-meet-2026/). ## Frequently asked questions

### Can the audience play along with the contestant?

Yes. Questions can run on every phone at the same time, with scores posting to the leaderboard, while the hot-seat contestant answers on stage.

### Who writes the questions?

The client writes or approves them. The Sociana team loads them and configures visibility, scoring and group scope. Prepare questions with their answers at least a week ahead.

### Can we run it for partners only?

Yes. Group scoping lets the quiz appear only for the group you choose, such as partners, while employees see other content.

### Do the lifelines need special software?

The audience poll uses live polls. Other lifelines, such as phone a friend, are run on stage by the emcee. A custom game can build them into the screen flow if agreed in advance.
