# How to decide between a single-event app and a multi-event app

When one branded app per occasion fits, when one app hosting many occasions fits, and how store submission changes the choice for agencies and associations.

**Choose a single-event app when one occasion needs its own brand, audience and store listing; choose a multi-event app when the same people or the same agency will run several occasions over time. The deciding questions are repeat use, brand control and how often you can afford a store submission.**

## The two models in plain words

A single-event app is built for one occasion: one name, one look, one set of members. People install it for the conference, use it for three days and, in most cases, never open it again. A multi-event app, in Sociana’s terms, exposes several occasions in one installation. A person installs once, joins each occasion by code or QR, sees a list of the occasions they belong to and receives updates across them. Each occasion can keep its own look, sections, hospitality forms and networking.

Neither is better in general. The right model depends on who is behind the app and how often it will be used.

## Step 1: count the occasions you will run in a year

If the answer is one, the decision is easy: a single-event app. If it is two to three, run the numbers on effort. If it is five or more, or you are an agency whose business is occasions, a multi-event app starts to earn its keep.

Be honest about the count. Many organisers plan “a series” that turns out to be a single flagship event with a few small meetings. Only count occasions with real dates and budgets.

## Step 2: ask who owns the relationship with the guest

An agency’s guests are the agency’s clients’ guests. A single-event app for each client gives each client its own brand, and the agency runs several apps. A multi-event app gives the agency its own durable brand, with each client’s occasion inside. Which is right depends on whether the client or the agency should be the name on the phone.

An association faces the same question differently: its members are members all year, and a multi-event app gives them one place to return to, with each annual conference, regional meet and awards night an occasion inside it.

## Step 3: weigh the store submission

Sociana submits each branded app to the stores, so there is no instant publish. Android holds 93.89% of India’s mobile OS market, so the Play Store matters most in practice ([StatCounter, 2026](https://gs.statcounter.com/os-market-share/mobile/india)), but both stores review submissions and timing is outside anyone’s control. In a single-event app, that review is part of every build. In a multi-event app, once the app is live, a new occasion can be added without a new submission. For an agency with a rhythm of events, that is a real advantage.

## Step 4: compare the two models side by side

| Question | Single-event app | Multi-event app |
| ---------------------- | -------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Brand | One occasion’s own name and look | The agency’s or association’s name; each occasion keeps its own look |
| Install | Per event | Once, then join by code or QR |
| New occasion | New build and store submission | New occasion inside the existing app |
| Cross-occasion updates | No | Updates gathers every occasion’s messages |
| Roles | Per app | Owner and Manager roles per occasion |
| Fit | One-off flagship event | Agency, association, recurring programme |
| Risk | Low use after the event | Needs one name that guests accept |

## Step 5: consider the guest’s experience

A guest of a one-off wedding does not want a name-brand agency app, and may not want an app on their phone after the weekend. A member of an association that runs six events a year probably does. A participant in a recurring ethics programme, such as quarterly cycles, wants one place to return to.

The multi-event model also helps with discovery: people see only the occasions they belong to or have joined by code, so a guest never scrolls through other clients’ events.

## Step 6: think about the data and the support load

In a multi-event app, each occasion has its own members, content, roles and reports. A person in two occasions has one account but separate roles in each. That helps an agency keep clients apart. It also asks for discipline: a clear naming scheme for occasions and a consistent way of issuing join codes.

Support is similar. A guest who cannot find their occasion needs a code; a guest who forgot a number needs the desk. Put the help route in the app, and give each occasion a way to raise a request.

## Step 7: pick, then pilot

If you are still unsure, pilot. Run one occasion in a multi-event app and watch how guests behave: whether they join by code without help, whether they return, whether the agency brand helps or hurts. A pilot costs a single event’s effort and answers the question with real results.

## When to stay with a single-event app

- The brand of the occasion matters more than the brand of the organiser.
- The audience will not use an app again.
- A client insists on its own store listing.
- You need a very different look and structure for this one event.

## When to move to a multi-event app

- You run several occasions a year for the same community or for many clients.
- You want guests to find the next event in the same place.
- You want to avoid a new store submission every time.
- You want cross-occasion updates in one inbox.

## How Sociana handles this

[Multi-event and agency apps](https://sociana.in/features/multi-event-and-agency-apps/) let one app host several occasions with a list and search, join by code or QR, and per-occasion branding. Roles stay per occasion. [Occasion and attendee codes](https://sociana.in/features/occasion-and-attendee-codes/) carry the join, the [admin panel](https://sociana.in/features/admin-panel-and-roles/) holds configuration per occasion with organisation-level templates for reuse, and [groups](https://sociana.in/features/groups-and-cohorts/) separate cohorts inside an occasion.

Occasion Xperts is an events agency that runs weddings, conferences, offsites and reunions from a single branded Sociana app: guests log in once, join each occasion with a code or QR, and see that occasion’s own colours, sections and hospitality details. The recorded lesson: an agency gets more from one durable app than from a new store listing per client. Read the [Occasion Xperts case study](https://sociana.in/case-studies/occasion-xperts/). EEMA Connect and Integrity Champ show the same model for an association and a recurring programme.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can a multi-event app have a different look for each occasion?

Yes. Each occasion keeps its own branding, section names and bottom-bar shortcuts in the same app.

### Do guests need to install a new app for each occasion?

Not in a multi-event app. They join a new occasion by typing a code or scanning a QR from within the app.

### Is a multi-event app instant to publish?

No. Sociana still submits each branded app to the stores. Multi-event apps help because later occasions do not need a new submission.

### Can I start with one event and add others later?

Often yes, if the app was built as a multi-occasion app. Decide at the start, because moving a single-event app later is a rebuild.
