# How to plan a wedding guest app's content from invitation to thank-you

A content calendar for a wedding guest app: what to publish at 75, 30, 7 and 2 days out, on the day and afterwards, with moderation and privacy settled first.

SSociana team·19 Oct 2026·6 min read

**Plan a wedding guest app’s content as a calendar, not a pile. Publish the couple’s welcome and travel tasks first, the programme and dress codes next, games and countdown in the weeks between, live updates on the days and shared albums and thank-yous afterwards. Settle moderation, group visibility and document retention before anything goes live.**

## Who this guide is for

You are the couple, a parent, or the planner managing a wedding with several functions and guests from two families, two cities and sometimes two continents. The app is for guests, so what matters is what they see on a given day, not how many features are switched on.

## Why a content plan matters more than a feature list

A wedding app that opens on day one with every tab filled and then goes silent teaches guests to ignore it. One that opens with a single clear task, “tell us how you are travelling”, and then adds something every few days becomes a habit. The sangeet timing, the bus to the venue, the dress code per function: guests ask these hundreds of times on WhatsApp. An app answers them once, in the place guests already check.

The season also forces focus. CAIT projected 46 lakh weddings in the 45 days from 1 November to 14 December 2025 ([CAIT, 10 November 2025](https://cait.in/wedding-season-2025-to-generate-%E2%82%B96-5-lakh-crore-business-from-46-lakh-weddings-across-india-cait-delhi-alone-to-witness-%E2%82%B91-8-lakh-crore-trade-from-4-8-lakh-weddings-indian/)), and Drik Panchang lists 59 shubh vivah muhurat dates for 2026, with the winter window opening on 21 November ([Drik Panchang, 2026](https://www.drikpanchang.com/shubh-dates/shubh-marriage-dates-with-muhurat.html?year=2026)). Guests receive several invitations in the same fortnight, which is one more reason to give yours a reason to be opened.

The Tanvi & Rutwik wedding app (a three-day Pune wedding, in preparation) is set up with a 75-day staged launch and switches to wedding mode two days before the functions. Treat the dates here as a pattern, not a rule.

## Step by step

### Step 1: Settle the three decisions first

Before writing anything, decide who moderates the wishes wall and albums, which guests see which content, and how long uploaded travel documents are kept. These are the three things the Tanvi & Rutwik wedding app build flags as needing settlement before publishing, and they are easier to decide before anything exists.

### Step 2: Define the groups

At minimum: bride’s side and groom’s side. Add family, friends, planner and vendors if their content differs. Groups drive targeted notifications and team games. See [groups and cohorts](https://sociana.in/features/groups-and-cohorts/).

### Step 3: Write the “From the couple” page

A short personal welcome, in the couple’s voice, is the one piece of copy guests remember. Keep it under 150 words. Add a photo.

### Step 4: Build the programme, function by function

For each function: name, date, time, place, dress code, what to expect, and a line on the ritual’s significance for guests who are new to it. Gloss unfamiliar words once. Keep language plain: “Sangeet, 8 pm, lawn 2\. Dress code: anything yellow.” Use the [wedding itinerary template](https://sociana.in/templates/wedding-itinerary-template/) and the [wedding guest app content checklist](https://sociana.in/templates/wedding-guest-app-content-checklist/).

**Do it in Sociana:** the [agenda](https://sociana.in/features/agenda-and-show-flow/) with day cards and expandable notes, and [information pages](https://sociana.in/features/information-pages-and-documents/) for the couple’s letter and the venue.

### Step 5: Plan the travel and ID collection

Ask only for what the family or planner will act on: arrival, departure, ID for hotel check-in, dietary notes. Hospitality tabs show an “Action needed” prompt until answered, and published travel cards show flights, hotel and transport per guest. See [hospitality requests and My Stay](https://sociana.in/features/hospitality-requests-and-my-stay/).

### Step 6: Schedule the countdown, notices and alerts

Add the countdown a week out. Schedule alerts, such as “Buses leave for the Sangeet in 15 minutes”, for the days themselves. See [notices, banners and countdown](https://sociana.in/features/notices-banners-and-countdown/).

### Step 7: Plan a game calendar between the families

Crosswords, riddles, Mad Libs and a memory game run for weeks beforehand give the two sides something to do together before they meet. A scoreboard by team (bride’s side versus groom’s side) adds friendly rivalry. See [games library](https://sociana.in/features/games-library/).

### Step 8: Prepare the afterwards

Create the shared album, the highlights page and a thank-you note before the wedding. Decide the download rules and tell guests how to delete their accounts.

## Tone and language

Write the app in the voice the family uses. A letter from the couple can be affectionate; the logistics should be plain and exact. Use the names guests say for functions and keep ritual glosses short and respectful, for guests from outside the tradition. Offer Hindi or a regional language where the elders read it, alongside English. A weekly prompt in the game calendar can be playful, but keep the notices that carry times, places and buses free of jokes; people will act on them in a hurry.

Ask one or two relatives from each side to read the content before it goes live. They will catch a name spelled wrongly, a ritual described with the wrong emphasis and a time that clashes with a family custom. Their approval also makes them advocates when elders ask what the app is for.

## Pitfalls

1. **Everything on day one.** Stagger releases.
2. **No moderation owner.** A wishes wall unattended is a risk.
3. **Documents kept indefinitely.** Decide the deletion date now.
4. **Assuming elders will install.** Offer a printed QR and a family helper; phone OTP and WhatsApp-based sign-in lower the barrier.
5. **Overusing games.** Two per week is plenty.

## India and SAARC notes

Plan around the muhurat calendar and regional rites: a Bengali wedding has holud and bou bhaat, a Pakistani one has mehndi and walima, a Sri Lankan one has its own sequence. Use the names guests actually say. Gloss them once on the buyer-facing page, not in guest copy. For NRI and destination weddings, guests abroad often sign in by email OTP rather than an Indian mobile number; the Tanvi & Rutwik wedding app (in preparation) allows both.

## How Sociana handles this

The Tanvi & Rutwik wedding app (a three-day Pune wedding) is in its pre-event build. It collects travel and ID details through Your Hospitality tabs, publishes flights, hotel and transport back per guest, runs a 75-day calendar of games and prompts between the two sides, and ends with a shared album and an AI event highlights page. Open the [branding and home tile configurator demo](https://sociana.in/demos/branding-and-home-tile-configurator/) to see how the Home screen is arranged. For the build itself, read [how to make a wedding guest app](https://sociana.in/guides/make-a-wedding-guest-app/).

## FAQ

### How many weeks before the wedding should we launch?

The Pune app launched in stages from about 75 days out, but a lighter plan works too. Launch when you have a first task for guests, such as travel details, not before.

### Who should moderate wishes and photos?

Name one person from the family or planner team and a backup. Decide whether posts are approved first or checked afterwards.

### Can we hide parts of the app from some guests?

Yes. Content can be scoped by group, so the bride’s side and groom’s side, or family and friends, can see different notices.

### What happens to the app after the wedding?

The shared album, wishes and highlights remain; guests can delete their accounts. Decide in advance how long you want it live.
