# Sociana + Twilio

Twilio is one of the providers discussed for sending Sociana's SMS and WhatsApp messages. If your organisation holds a Twilio account, OTPs and campaigns can be routed through it, with delivery logs in Sociana. Indian SMS needs DLT registration, and use is agreed per occasion rather than listed as a partnership.

## What it does inside Sociana

Twilio offers programmable SMS and a WhatsApp Business API route. Sociana's messaging module is provider-based, so a Twilio account can sit behind SMS OTP, WhatsApp templates or both. For SMS to Indian numbers, DLT sender and template registration is required, which is a regulatory step for the organiser. Treat this as a description of how the route works; it is not a certified Twilio integration.

### Data protection (DPDP)

The organiser is the Data Fiduciary and Sociana acts as processor. Ask us for the hosting region and retention period that apply to your occasion; the sub-processor list is on the Sub-processors and integrations page. We do not state a region or retention period on this page.

### Security notes

- Phone numbers and content pass to Twilio and the carriers; Twilio would be listed as a sub-processor if used.
- Ask us how credentials are handled; we answer in writing.

## Set-up checklist

1. Ask the delivery team whether Twilio is workable for your occasion and countries.
2. Complete DLT registration if you will send SMS to Indian numbers.
3. Create the Twilio sender and, for WhatsApp, the approved templates.
4. Share credentials securely and send to an internal test group.
5. Review delivery logs and error codes after the first send.

- SMS to India depends on DLT approval; delays are outside Sociana's control.

## Questions people ask

Can OTPs go through Twilio?

They can be routed through a configured provider account, and Twilio is one that has been discussed. The choice, and any DLT step for India, is settled at project start.

Do I need DLT registration?

For SMS to Indian numbers, yes. The organiser sets up the sender and templates. It is a regulatory requirement outside Sociana and it can take time, so start before the build is finished.

Is this a certified integration?

No. Sociana is not a listed Twilio partner. The provider contract and charges are between you and Twilio.
