What is “Treasure hunt”?

A treasure hunt is a clue-based game across a venue or city in which participants solve clues and verify progress through QR scans, image scans or typed answers.

Also called: clue hunt, venue hunt

Treasure hunt in detail

Treasure hunts turn a venue into a game board and are a staple of offsites, incentive trips and weddings. Participants follow clues, individually or in teams, and prove progress by scanning a QR code, scanning an image or entering an answer. Sociana's hunt module supports ordered or free sequences, team scoring and AR reveals. Sociana runs QR and AR hunts and offline games; it does not run GPS-based outdoor missions. Good hunts balance clue difficulty, walking distance and time, with a visible leaderboard and a clear finishing moment. For safety, brief participants on boundaries and have hosts at key points. Pair the hunt with a selfie booth, a team target or a social wall to make the output shareable, and consider accessibility, since not every guest can walk the same route. Track checkpoint completion and total time to tune the next one.

How Sociana uses it

Hunts are part of the games cluster, using QR, image scan and AR checkpoints with team and individual scoring that feeds the leaderboard.

Example

A cultural offsite ran a QR scavenger hunt with AR reveals and a selfie booth.
