Awards night checklist
A 36-point checklist for an awards night, from category design and nominations to the stage script, winner notifications and the post-event recognition. It focuses on what goes wrong most often: unclear criteria and a long ceremony.
No sign-up needed.
Who it is for
- Corporate event managers hosting an annual awards ceremony
- Sales and channel leads who recognise top partners
- Association secretariats running member awards
How to use it
- Fix the categories and criteria first and publish them; clear criteria reduce complaints later.
- Keep the ceremony under ninety minutes by cutting speeches, not categories.
- Prepare winner notifications and a thank-you for non-winners in the same sitting.
- Run the stage script once with the person who reads the names.

Questions people ask
How many categories are too many?
Past ten, the ceremony drags. If you have more, announce some in the app or at a separate event, and keep the stage for the awards that matter most to the audience.
Should winners be told beforehand?
Tell winners enough in advance to attend, but not which award unless protocol demands it. For partners travelling a long way, confirm attendance rather than announcing the result.
How do we handle disputes?
Publish the criteria and the jury names. Keep scoring sheets for an agreed time, and appoint one person to hear concerns after the event, with a short reply promise.
