Attendance rule in detail
Rules are what turn a scanner into a gatekeeper. For each attendance activity the organiser can combine conditions: a time window during which check-in is accepted, group eligibility restricting entry to named groups, a ticket requirement admitting only holders of a particular ticket type, a limit on repeat scans by the same person, and a step order that requires an earlier activity to be completed first. When someone scans and fails a rule, the attempt is recorded but not counted as accepted attendance, with the reason visible to the scanner. That separation is what makes the headline metric credible. Rules can award points when an activity is completed and reverse them if the check-in is later removed. The craft is in choosing the minimum set that prevents the problems you expect: a dinner usually needs a time window and eligibility; a registration desk may need only a ticket check. Test each rule with a scanner before the event.
How Sociana uses it
Rules are configured per activity in attendance settings and evaluated at scan time. Rejected attempts are retained for audit, apart from accepted attendance.
Example
A conference restricted a dinner activity to a particular group within a time window and a single scan per person.
