What is “Member”?

A member is a person who belongs to an occasion with a defined role — guest, visitor, owner, manager or partner — and a profile that determines what they see and may do.

Also called: participant profile, occasion member

Member in detail

In Sociana a member is not a generic user account. It is a person's membership of one particular occasion, carrying a role, profile fields and group memberships. The same human can be a guest in one occasion and a manager in another, and each membership has its own history, points and permissions. Profile fields are chosen per occasion: employee code, city, zone, category tags, dietary needs, whatever the organiser needs to segment and serve people. Members arrive in several ways: loaded from a CSV import, matched against a guest list, admitted by an allowed company email domain, approved after registration, or created automatically when a ticket is bought. Because content, polls, chat and notifications are scoped by group, membership is what drives personalised experiences. It is also the denominator for the headline metrics, since activation and participation are counted against eligible members, not downloads.

How Sociana uses it

Members live in the occasion's member list in the admin panel, with role, profile fields and group assignments editable singly or by CSV import. Activation rate counts members who signed in, divided by members invited.

Example

A corporate annual conference loaded employees with city and zone fields, so each member saw agenda items and polls for their own region.

Questions

Is a member the same as a user?

Not quite. A member is a person's role-bearing membership of one occasion, so the same person can hold different roles and separate points across occasions. In Sociana a member is not a generic user account. The same human can be a guest in one occasion and a manager in another, and each membership has its own history, points and permissions.

How do people become members?

By CSV import, guest-list match, allowed email domain, approval after registration, a code or QR join, or by buying a ticket that creates membership automatically. Members live in the occasion's member list in the admin panel, with role, profile fields and group assignments editable singly or by CSV import.

Can members belong to more than one group?

Yes. A member can sit in several groups, such as a zone, a team and a delegate category, and each group can scope content, polls and notifications independently. Because content, polls, chat and notifications are scoped by group, membership is what drives personalised experiences.
