Approach comparison

Single-event app vs multi-event app: one install per occasion, or one for all?

A single-event app gets a bespoke look per event; a multi-event app keeps members, listing and login across occasions. Compare cost, retention and effort.

Short answer. Build a single-event app when the event is a one-off, flagship or heavily themed. Use a multi-event app when you run several events a year for the same people, because members install once, log in once and see every occasion they belong to. Agencies and associations usually gain the most from the multi-event model.

Disclosure. Sociana publishes this page and sells an event app, so we have an interest in approach two. We say where the other approach wins, use no statistic without a dated source, and last reviewed it on 19 Oct 2026.

What each approach is

Single-event app

An app published for one event, with its own name, listing, branding and lifecycle. Guests install it for the event and often delete it afterwards.

Multi-event app

One installed app that hosts many occasions. People join each occasion by code or QR, see a list of their occasions and read updates from all of them, and each occasion keeps its own branding and home screen.

Decision table: cost, effort, data, risk and scale

Dimension Single-event app Multi-event app
Cost. Cost as events and users grow A new build, listing and approvals each time; cost scales with events Shared build and listing; each new occasion is mostly configuration
Effort. Effort to set up and run Store review per event; start each community from zero Create an occasion, set codes and branding; reuse members
Data. Data you keep Separate user bases per event unless you merge them One member base across occasions, with occasion-level records
Risk. Risk Low retention: the app is deleted after the event; high launch overhead Less visual freedom per event; one outage affects all occasions
Scale. Scale Fine for a flagship Fits agencies, associations and recurring programmes

When a single-event app wins

  • A one-off, heavily themed flagship.
  • You need a unique store presence for a single launch.
  • You will not run another event for this audience.

When a multi-event app wins

  • You run several occasions a year for related audiences.
  • You are an agency serving many clients.
  • You want people to log in once and stay.
  • You want to reduce store submissions.

How Sociana fits

Sociana multi-occasion apps let one installation host many occasions: participants join by code or QR, and each occasion keeps its own branding, section names and content. Occasion Xperts, Nirvaan and EEMA Connect run this way. Single-occasion branded apps are also available.

Features involved: Multi-event & agency apps, Occasion codes & attendee codes, Branding, home tiles & layout, Phone, email & WhatsApp OTP login.

Worked example: Nirvaan

Nirvaan is the plain version of the idea: log in once with phone or email, see every occasion you belong to as a card with cover, date, venue and type, search them, join new ones by code or QR and read updates in one inbox. Organisers mark attendance by scanning a QR or typing an email or phone. The case lessons are that not every client wants a feature-rich app, and that the manual add path covers guests who arrive without a working phone.

What to keep when you switch

If you move from single-event apps to a multi-event app, keep your brand assets and migrate member lists by CSV. Keep a distinct look per occasion through tiles and colours.

FAQ

Does a multi-event app look generic?

Not necessarily; each occasion can have its own colours, tiles and labels, and Sociana lets organisers rename sections.

How do guests join an occasion?

By code or QR; they log in with an OTP and the occasion appears in their list.

Is a single-event app more premium?

It can feel more bespoke, but a multi-event app with strong per-occasion branding is usually enough.

Which is better for agencies?

Usually multi-event: one store listing, many clients, per-client branding.
