Leaderboard points in detail
Points do two jobs that should never be confused: they show who is doing well, and they buy things. Sociana splits the jobs into two currencies. Leaderboard points are the first, the ranking currency. They accumulate as participants act: attending sessions, answering polls, completing games, syncing steps, scanning stall QR codes, giving feedback. They cannot be spent, which means a participant's standing is a clean record of participation, not of how they chose to redeem. Administrators can adjust leaderboard points with a recorded reason when a correction is needed, and attendance rules can reverse points if a check-in is later removed. Staff are excluded from ranking by setting. Keeping the ranking currency pure also helps fairness disputes, because the organiser can show exactly which activities produced which points, and cap or weight activities to stop one behaviour dominating the board.
How Sociana uses it
Each points-earning module is configured with its own leaderboard point value. Wallet points, if enabled, are a separate balance that sits beside this one.
Example
A programme leaderboard kept ranking stable while participants spent separate points at the reward counter.
