Sociana + Razorpay

Sociana takes ticket and slot payments through Razorpay checkout, using the organiser's own Razorpay account. It was seen in production at the APMI conference, where meeting-room slots were booked and paid inside the app with billing details and a state field that sets GST. Settlement, fees and refunds sit with Razorpay.

What it does inside Sociana

Razorpay is the payment gateway behind paid tickets and paid time-slot bookings. A guest chooses a ticket or a slot, enters billing details, pays in Razorpay checkout and returns to the app with a confirmation. At the APMI conference 2026 the same flow carried a per-guest booking cap, and a state field decided how GST was shown. Ticket purchase can also create membership, so payment and access stay on one record.

What the organiser configures

  • Your Razorpay account and API keys, entered by the Sociana team at set-up
  • Ticket types, prices and per-person limits (tickets-and-payments)
  • Slot grids, capacity and per-guest caps for room or meeting booking
  • Billing-detail fields and the state field that drives GST
  • The confirmation email and invoice message guests receive

Data protection (DPDP)

The organiser is the Data Fiduciary and Sociana acts as processor. Ask us for the hosting region and retention period that apply to your occasion; the sub-processor list is on the Sub-processors and integrations page. We do not state a region or retention period on this page.

Security notes

  • Card, UPI and netbanking details are entered on Razorpay's checkout and are not stored by Sociana.
  • Keys are held by the organiser and entered by the delivery team; ask us how they are handled.
  • Refund and chargeback handling follows Razorpay's rules.

Set-up checklist

  1. Confirm the Razorpay account belongs to the organiser and is activated for the payment methods you want.
  2. Share test and live keys through the agreed secure channel with the Sociana team.
  3. Create ticket types or slot grids and set limits, caps and the GST state field.
  4. Place a test order and a test refund before launch and check the confirmation message.
  5. Agree who answers payment queries on the day and where settlement reports are read.

Limits, stated plainly

  • Razorpay settles in India. It does not settle in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives or Afghanistan, so SAARC occasions outside India need a local rail or an invoicing path.
  • Gateway fees and settlement timing are set by Razorpay and charged to the organiser's account.
  • Sociana is not a payment aggregator and does not hold funds.
  • Sociana's own commission model is not published; gateway fees are stated on actuals.

Not offered yet

  • Local payment rails for Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives and Afghanistan
  • Payments for a ticket marketplace or consumer discovery

Pricing note

Razorpay charges its own gateway fees to the organiser. Sociana lists them on actuals and does not add a commission line today.

Indicative figures are not a quote. Pricing explains how scope moves the price.

Questions people ask

Does Sociana hold the money from tickets or slots?

No. Payments settle through the organiser's own Razorpay account, so settlement, payouts and reconciliation sit with the organiser and Razorpay. Sociana records the order and its status against the member.

Can we use Razorpay outside India?

Razorpay does not settle in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives or Afghanistan. For those countries we name a local rail or an invoicing path per occasion, and we say so on the country page.

Does it handle GST invoices?

The APMI flow collected billing details with a state field that sets GST, and invoice messages are configurable. Tax treatment and filing remain the organiser's responsibility; see the payment invoices and GST page.
