Gamification in detail
Gamification borrows the parts of games that work and applies them to something else: here, an event, a workplace programme or a wellness challenge. The common mechanics are points for actions, badges for milestones, tiers or levels for progress, streaks for consistency, leaderboards for comparison, and time-limited boosts or challenges for urgency. Done well, it makes participation visible and rewarding. Done badly, it turns into leaderboard theatre that benefits the already competitive and bores everyone else. Sociana's practice is to keep the pieces separate and legible: leaderboard points rank, wallet points spend, badges recognise, and rules are published. It also distinguishes gamification from games; a game is a playable thing, such as trivia or bingo, while gamification is the scoring layer that can make any activity, even an agenda check-in, count. For measurement, the question is never how many points were issued but how many eligible people did the intended behaviour.
How Sociana uses it
Sociana's gamification layer spans the unified leaderboard, wallet and reward store, badges and streaks, tournaments and the games library, all configured per occasion.
Example
A corporate offsite combined games, check-ins and a shared leaderboard so ordinary activities counted toward rank.
