What is “Feature switch”?

A feature switch is the per-occasion setting that turns a module on, off or not-included, letting organisers choose exactly which capabilities participants see.

Also called: module toggle, feature on/off

Feature switch in detail

Sociana is one platform with many modules, from polls and games to hospitality and tickets, and not every occasion wants all of them. A feature switch is how an organiser decides. For each occasion the admin panel lists the modules with three states: on, off, or not included in the chosen package. Switching a module off removes its tab or tile from the app; switching it on exposes the screens and any rules that govern it. This is why the same engine can power a quiet association conference with agenda, speakers and room booking, and a high-energy offsite with games, scavenger hunts and a social wall. Switches sit beside rules, which set how an enabled feature behaves, and look and layout, which decides where it appears. Capability statuses on feature pages, such as live or rollout, tell buyers which switches exist today.

How Sociana uses it

Feature switches are the Features layer of Features / Rules / Look & layout. Each state — on, off, not included — is shown per module in the occasion's admin configuration.

Example

A conference-plus-room-booking occasion switched on agenda, speakers and booking, while leaving games and the social wall off.

Questions

What are the three feature states?

On, off and not included. Not included means the module is outside the occasion's package, whereas off means it is available but hidden from participants for now. For each occasion the admin panel lists the modules with three states: on, off, or not included in the chosen package.

Does switching a feature off delete its data?

Switching off hides the module from participants. Whether stored records persist depends on the module, so confirm retention rules with your delivery lead before the occasion. A feature switch is the per-occasion setting that turns a module on, off or not-included, letting organisers choose exactly which capabilities participants see.

How is a switch different from a rule?

A switch decides whether a module exists in the occasion. A rule decides how it behaves once on, such as who may post or download. Switches sit beside rules, which set how an enabled feature behaves, and look and layout, which decides where it appears.
