Health data in step challenges

Sociana step challenges read step counts only through Health Connect on Android or Apple Health on iOS, and only after the participant accepts the phone’s own permission prompt. Steps feed the programme’s leaderboards, badges and reports, and nothing else.

What is read

  • Step counts from the programme’s start date: daily totals, and hourly totals where the programme shows hourly views.
  • Nothing else: no heart rate, sleep, weight or location history.
  • Manual entries do not count towards scores, unusual days are flagged for the programme admin to review, and daily caps can apply.

What it is used for

Leaderboards, team targets, streaks, badges and the programme’s reports. Step data is not used for advertising, and Apple’s HealthKit rules and Google’s Health Connect policy forbid that use too.

What Sociana is not

Step challenges run inside your programme or event app. We do not offer sleep, nutrition, mental-health or biometric-screening programmes, and Sociana is not a HIPAA-covered service.

FAQ

Common questions

Does Sociana connect to Fitbit or Garmin?

Not directly. Step challenges read data only through Health Connect on Android and Apple Health on iOS. If your watch syncs into one of those, your steps arrive that way.

Can my employer see my individual step count?

Other participants see what the leaderboard shows: your rank and steps, or your team’s. Programme administrators can see individual totals where the programme needs them, for example to check an unusual day.

Can I stop sharing steps?

Yes. Revoke the permission in Health Connect or the Health app at any time and syncing stops immediately. Steps already synced stay on the leaderboard until the programme’s data is deleted or you delete your account.
